Short answer. A TikTok Live moderator is an account the host adds in the LIVE settings to mute and block viewers and manage comments during the stream. You can hire one as a freelancer, put an employee on it, or book a managed team. Brands and TikTok Shop sellers choose a team when lives run daily and a missed scam comment costs real orders.
On a selling live the host is talking, demoing and watching the product pins. Nobody is reading chat. That is when a lookalike account posts "DM us for your refund", a competitor drops a discount code, and three buyers ask about sizing and leave without an answer. A booked moderator fixes all three for the price of a few hours a day.
Chat on a live moves faster than any host can read. These are the jobs we take off the host and the producer.
Keep TikTok's own comment filters on in every case. The table shows where each staffing option stops once the live is a sales channel with a schedule.

TikTok Shop sellers. Beauty, apparel, supplements, collectibles and home goods brands that sell live most days. The live is revenue, so a host who stops to deal with a troll or misses a shipping question is losing orders in real time.
Live commerce and TikTok Shop agencies. Agencies running lives for several clients need a moderator on each one, with each client's rules, without hiring a bench of part time staff. We put one seat on each live and send the client ready report after it ends.
Consumer brands and retailers. Product launches, creator collaborations and seasonal sale events where marketing wants a busy chat and legal wants nothing unsafe or misleading left visible under the brand name.
Creators with sponsors. Channels whose sponsor contracts carry brand safety terms. If the same show also runs elsewhere, our Twitch moderators for hire and YouTube live chat moderation teams work from the same rulebook.

One account with a fixed schedule can be covered within a week or two. A multi brand agency roster usually takes 30 days.
Send your brand rules, the claims hosts may and may not make, your approved answers on shipping and returns, and the live schedule. We turn them into a decision list: ignore, mute and for how long, block, escalate.
The host adds our moderators' accounts in the LIVE settings. That is the only access we need. No login, no seller center access, no payment data.
On the first two or three lives we work next to your producer. You review our calls and the corrections go into the rules.
Every live on the calendar has a moderator booked and a backup named. After each live you get the action report, and every week a summary with trends.
Paid stream moderator listings in the US ranged from about $21 to $64 an hour in October 2026, going by ZipRecruiter job data for stream moderators. Hours decide the budget. A 3 hour live five days a week with one moderator is about 65 moderator hours a month. Add a second seat for two weekly product drops of 3 hours each and you are near 91.
Hiring freelancers for that means one invoice per person, no cover when someone is out and nobody checking that two moderators make the same call. Our team is billed as one retainer sized to your schedule, comment volume and languages. The plan builder at the top of this page gives the estimate, the method is on our content moderation pricing page, and the content moderation outsourcing cost guide compares hourly, per item and retainer billing.
Agencies that already employ moderators and only need a shared queue, QA sampling and client reports can run them on our moderation software, which starts at $199 a month.
TikTok gives hosts a keyword filter that takes up to 200 terms, a filter for comments it judges inappropriate, and mutes that run from a few seconds to the rest of the live. Those tools are good at known words. They do not recognize an account dressed up as your support team, a scam written with spaces between letters, or a real customer with a real complaint who needs an answer and not a mute. Reading intent at speed is the part we staff.
Threats against a host, doxxing, self harm comments and anything involving a minor are escalated to your named contact immediately with the evidence saved. Moderators on these shifts rotate and work under the protections in our moderator wellbeing commitments.
Yes. The host adds any TikTok account as a moderator in the LIVE settings, so the moderator can be a friend, an employee, a freelancer or a member of a managed moderation team. Brands and TikTok Shop sellers that go live on a schedule usually hire a team booked around the live calendar and working from written rules.
A TikTok Live moderator can mute a viewer for a few seconds, a few minutes or the rest of the live, block a viewer from the live, and help manage comments and filtered keywords on the host's behalf. Muting a viewer also removes that viewer's earlier comments from the chat. The host decides who holds the role.
TikTok does not pay moderators. A moderator is paid only when the host, brand or agency running the live pays them, as an employee, a freelancer or through a moderation service. Creator channels often rely on volunteers, while brands and TikTok Shop sellers pay for moderators because the live is a sales channel.
Paid stream moderator listings in the US ranged from about $21 to $64 an hour in October 2026. Hours drive the budget: a 3 hour live five days a week with one moderator is about 65 moderator hours a month, and two seats double it. A managed team bills one monthly retainer sized to your schedule and comment volume.
One moderator is enough for most lives with up to a few hundred concurrent viewers. Plan two seats for product drops, giveaways, lives promoted with ads and any stream above roughly a thousand concurrent viewers, so one person can handle scams and harassment while the other feeds buyer questions to the host.
Yes, from a script you approve. We answer the repeat questions on sizing, shipping times, returns and stock in your wording, and pass anything outside the script to the host or producer. Moderators never invent product claims, prices or discounts, which keeps the live inside your legal and platform rules.
Yes. Each live gets its own moderator on the shift and each brand keeps its own decision list, so an agency with ten client accounts gets ten rulebooks and one invoice. Communities that continue the conversation after the live can add our Discord moderation services under the same retainer.
