Moderate profiles before they reach the swipe deck
A profile is the first thing every other user sees, so it is worth reviewing before it goes live, at least for new accounts. Check names, bios and prompts for contact details if your model forbids them, links, commercial intent, hate and sexual content against your rules, and any statement or signal that the user may be under the minimum age.
Review photos with dating specific rules
- Nudity and sexual content according to your policy
- Stolen, stock and celebrity photos
- Photos where the user cannot be identified, such as group shots only
- Photos of children, which most dating apps do not allow at all
- Images with text, contact details or scam messages
Watch messages for patterns, not words
Most harm on dating apps happens in messages, and most of it reads politely. Combine AI scoring of messages with human review of reported conversations, and give reviewers the whole conversation and the account history.
Recognise romance scams
- New accounts sending many first messages in a short time
- Fast requests to move to another messaging app
- Stories about deployment abroad, illness, a stuck inheritance or an investment opportunity
- Requests for money, gift cards or crypto
- Photos that appear on other profiles or elsewhere online
Act on the account, not the message. One removed message leaves the scammer free to try the next match.
Make reports fast for the dangerous cases
Not every report needs the same SLA. Reports of threats, sexual harassment, scams and suspected minors should be at the front of the queue with the tightest SLA you can staff. Profile edits and spam can wait longer.
Handle verification and appeals carefully
If you offer photo or ID verification, decide in advance what a reviewer checks and what happens when the check fails. Users removed by mistake need a clear appeal path, reviewed by someone other than the first reviewer.
Plan for the hours your users are online
Dating traffic peaks in the evening and at weekends in each time zone. A team sized on daytime averages will miss the reports that matter most.
